How to sort Gmail by sender

Gmail only sorts by date. It has no column you can click to sort by sender. But you can see every email from one sender with one right-click, and keep them grouped with a filter.

Quick answer

On a computer, right-click an email in your inbox and choose Find emails from the sender. Or type from:[email protected] in the search bar. To keep one sender's mail grouped from now on, create a filter that applies a label.

1. Right-click "Find emails from"

  1. In Gmail on a computer, right-click any email from the sender.
  2. Choose Find emails from followed by their name.

Gmail shows every email from that sender, newest first. From here you can select them all and delete, archive or label them.

2. Search with from:

To seeSearch for
One addressfrom:[email protected]
Everyone at a companyfrom:@example.com
A namefrom:jane
One sender, unread onlyfrom:[email protected] is:unread
One sender, with attachmentsfrom:[email protected] has:attachment

3. Keep a sender grouped with a filter and label

Create a filter with the sender in From, choose Apply the label and pick or create a label with their name. Tick Also apply filter to matching conversations. Now one click on that label shows all their mail. Steps: Gmail labels and filters.

4. Find who sends you the most

Gmail cannot rank senders. A practical shortcut: open Promotions or search unsubscribe, and look at the names that repeat on the first few pages. Those are usually the senders worth unsubscribing from or deleting in bulk.
