Password: Create an app password in Fastmail: Settings › Privacy & Security › Manage app passwords. Your normal password won't work in other apps.
Good to know
- Fastmail's Basic plan doesn't include IMAP or SMTP access, so other mail apps need a higher plan.
- When you create the app password, Fastmail lets you choose what it can access, such as mail only.
- Fastmail also supports JMAP, a newer protocol, in apps that offer it.
How to set it up in a mail app
- Open your mail app and choose to add an account. If it offers "Other", "Manual setup" or "Advanced", pick that.
- Choose IMAP (recommended) or POP.
- Enter the incoming and outgoing servers, ports and security from the table above.
- Use the username and password described below.
- Turn on "Outgoing server requires authentication" and use the same username and password.
If it doesn't work
- "Login failed"
- Use an app password, and make sure it was created with access to mail (IMAP and SMTP).
Getting a bounce with a code like 550 or 5.7.26 when you send? Look it up in the SMTP error code library.
